Where to stay in Paris: the best areas
Le Marais
Between the HΓ΄tel de Ville and the Place des Vosges there are charming hotels in old buildings and some apartments. The Γle de la CitΓ©, Notre-Dame, the Picasso Museum and plenty of restaurants and bars are within walking distance. It is a lively area at night too.
Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain
The Left Bank is full of small classic-style hotels, from simple to very elegant. The Luxembourg Gardens, the Sorbonne, the MusΓ©e dβOrsay and, across the river, the Louvre are all close. A good choice for a first visit.
Montmartre
On the hill and its slopes there are modest hotels and apartments with a neighbourhood feel. SacrΓ©-CΕur, Place du Tertre and the local cafΓ©s are close at hand. It is further from the Seine but well connected by metro, and the slopes are hard work with luggage.
Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars
The 7th and 15th arrondissements are residential and quiet, with mid-range and upmarket hotels. The Eiffel Tower, the TrocadΓ©ro and Les Invalides are a few minutesβ walk away. There is less going on at night than in the centre.
