Staying near the Gare du Nord: what you need to know

What is the Gare du Nord?

It is the busiest station in Europe, where the Eurostar to London and the trains to Brussels and Amsterdam depart. It is in the 10th arrondissement, next to the Gare de l’Est.

Getting there

The RER B takes you to Charles de Gaulle airport in about 30 minutes and, in the other direction, to Châtelet and the Latin Quarter. Line 4 reaches Saint-Germain and Montparnasse.

When rooms are hardest to find

On Fridays and during holidays, because of Eurostar and northbound rail travellers. It is an area with good prices for Paris.

Which area to choose

The streets next to the station are noisy and very busy, especially at night. Many travellers prefer the Canal Saint-Martin, 10 minutes away, or Montmartre, about 15 minutes on foot.

If you’d rather be in the old town, see the hotels in Paris city centre or our guide to the best areas to stay in Paris.
