Staying near the Latin Quarter: what you need to know

What is the Latin Quarter?

It is the Sorbonne district, on the Left Bank opposite Notre-Dame, with the Panthéon, the Luxembourg Gardens, bookshops and streets of bars and restaurants such as Rue Mouffetard.

Getting there

The RER B stops at Saint-Michel and Luxembourg and runs direct to Charles de Gaulle airport and to Orly, with the Orlyval. Metro line 4 crosses to the Right Bank in a few minutes.

When rooms are hardest to find

From April to October and at Christmas. The area has lots of two- and three-star hotels, a little more affordable than on the Right Bank.

Which area to choose

Around Saint-Michel there is more buzz and noise; around the Panthéon and Rue Mouffetard it is quieter. Saint-Germain-des-Prés, next door, is more elegant and expensive.

If you’d rather be in the old town, see the hotels in Paris city centre or our guide to the best areas to stay in Paris.
