What is Montparnasse?
It is the district in the south of Paris around the railway station and the Montparnasse Tower, with its viewing deck. It has the cafés of the early 20th-century painters, the cemetery and lots of crêperies, thanks to the Bretons who arrived by train.
Getting there
Montparnasse-Bienvenüe has metro lines 4, 6, 12 and 13. TGVs to Bordeaux, Brittany and the south-west leave from the railway station.
When rooms are hardest to find
In spring, in summer and at Christmas, and on trade fair days at Porte de Versailles, which is close by tram or metro.
Which area to choose
Around the station there are practical hotels for catching the train. Towards Boulevard Raspail and Saint-Germain the area is prettier and a little more expensive.
