Where to stay in Getafe: the best areas

Centre and Calle Madrid

Central Getafe revolves around Calle Madrid, pedestrianised and full of shops, and the town hall square. A few steps away are the cathedral of Santa María Magdalena and the Hospitalillo de San José, and the surrounding streets have bars serving sharing plates and terraces. Here you have both Getafe Centro local train station, on the C-4 line, and the Getafe Central stop on Metrosur, line 12. The C-4 takes you to Atocha and Sol with no changes, so sleeping here works for both work in the south and sightseeing in Madrid.

Best-rated in this area: Hostal Carlos III, with a score of 8.6 from 4,683 reviews.

Las Margaritas and the university

North of the centre, the Las Margaritas district has its own local train station, Las Margaritas-Universidad, on the same C-4. It takes its name from the Getafe campus of the Carlos III University, which brings many visiting lecturers and students’ families. It is a district of flats and everyday shops, with hardly any tourism, and the centre is within walking distance.

Sector III, Getafe Norte and El Bercial

These are the town’s newest districts, with wide avenues, parks and apartment blocks. At night there is little going on and it is usually easy to park on the street. Sector III has a local train station of the same name, and several Metrosur stops serve these areas. They suit families or those staying several nights for work who want peace.

Business parks and the Toledo road

Getafe has a lot of industry: the air base, the Airbus plant and several business parks. For these visits, a quick route onto the A-42 Toledo motorway and the M-45 and M-50 ring roads matters more than neighbourhood life. Getafe University Hospital is also on the A-42. To the east, by the A-4, rises the Cerro de los Ángeles, with the Sacred Heart monument and views over the whole south of Madrid.
