Where to stay in Aranjuez: the best areas

Plaza de San Antonio and the old town

Central Aranjuez is a grid of straight, flat streets, with the San Antonio chapel and its large square as the meeting point. From here you can walk to the Royal Palace, the Parterre and the Jardín de la Isla, and you have the market, the corrala houses and the bars serving strawberries and cream or asparagus in season close at hand. It is the choice for those who come to see the town in one or two days.

At night the atmosphere is one of quiet terraces, without much noise.

Best-rated in this area: NH Collection Palacio de Aranjuez, with a score of 9.0 from 4,120 reviews.

Around the palace and the station

Between the palace and the railway station are quiet streets and tree-lined avenues. Staying around here makes sense if you come from Madrid on the Cercanías, because the C-3 line ends in Aranjuez and you can walk with your suitcase. It also suits you if you plan to see the Royal Palace first thing, before the groups arrive.

Calle de la Reina and the Jardín del Príncipe

Calle de la Reina runs parallel to the Jardín del Príncipe, the city's largest garden, on the way to the Casa del Labrador and the museum that keeps the royal barges. It is a more residential, quieter area, with the garden as a playground for families and runners. The old town is a long walk away, but flat and shaded for much of the way.

A-4 access roads

On the outskirts, by the exits of the Andalusia motorway, there are places to stay with ample parking. They are convenient for work trips or if Aranjuez is a stop on a longer route, and also for combining the visit with Chinchón, which you can reach by car without crossing the centre. Bear in mind that street parking in the historic centre is limited, so consider this option if you do not want to drive around looking.
