Centre and the station

The village centre runs along the streets from the town hall towards the station. Here are the restaurants, bakeries and outdoor shops. The best thing about staying here is the train: the C-8 local line links you with Madrid and the C-9 climbs through the sierra to the Navacerrada pass and Cotos, so you can string routes together without the car.

It suits hikers coming from Madrid and families who want everything at hand.

Las Dehesas and the Fuenfría

Heading up from the village along the Las Dehesas road, you enter the pine forest where the Fuenfría valley opens. Here are the visitor centre, the start of the Roman road and several picnic areas. Sleeping in this part lets you set off walking from the door, with deep silence at night. There are few services, so plan dinner or have a car to drive down to the centre.

Navacerrada pass

High in the sierra, on the border between Madrid and Segovia, the Navacerrada pass has a small ski resort and is the starting point for Siete Picos and the Bola del Mundo. It has a stop on the C-9 train. Staying here works in winter for those coming for the snow, but it is a tiny settlement and in bad weather the road can be difficult.

Los Molinos and Navacerrada

These two neighbouring villages have rural houses, apartments and more of a summer-holiday feel. Los Molinos has a C-8 station, like Cercedilla. Navacerrada, at the foot of its reservoir, has terraces on its square and suits those driving between the sierra and Madrid.
