Where to stay in Aeropuerto de Madrid-Barajas: the best areas

Terminals T1, T2, T3 and T4

If your flight leaves in the early hours, the most convenient choice is to sleep right next to the terminals. There is accommodation by T4 and around the T1, T2 and T3 block, linked to each other by a free shuttle bus. Many places in the area offer their own transfer to the terminals.

To get into central Madrid there is Metro line 8, which connects with Nuevos Ministerios, Cercanías trains from T4 and the Exprés Aeropuerto bus, which runs to Atocha.

IFEMA and Campo de las Naciones

West of the airport is the IFEMA trade fair ground, with the Palacio Municipal de Congresos and offices around it. This is the area for those attending a trade fair or conference who want to walk to the hall. Feria de Madrid station, on line 8, links it with the airport and the city centre. Right next door is the Parque Juan Carlos I, large and with lakes, for a run or to unwind after work.

Barajas village

The old village of Barajas keeps its arcaded main square, with neighbourhood bars and restaurants. Staying here gives you more of a street atmosphere than the terminals, with places to eat at normal prices. Barajas station, on line 8, takes you to the airport in one stop. It also has a park, a church and a local feel at weekends.

Alameda de Osuna

South of Barajas is Alameda de Osuna, a quiet residential neighbourhood next to El Capricho park, a historic garden well worth a visit. Metro line 5 runs through here, straight into the centre without changing. It suits you if you are combining work at IFEMA with a few days of sightseeing in Madrid.
