Staying near Termini: what you need to know

What is Termini?

It is Rome’s main station, with high-speed trains to Florence, Naples, Milan and Venice. The two main metro lines cross here, and the airport buses leave from here too.

Getting there

Metro lines A and B stop at the station: line A goes to the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and the Vatican, and line B to the Colosseum. The Leonardo Express runs to Fiumicino without stopping.

When rooms are hardest to find

In high season and at weekends. There are many hotels and guesthouses, so there is usually room, at lower prices than in the historic centre.

Which area to choose

North of the station, towards Via Nazionale and Repubblica, the hotels are quieter and the area is pleasant. The streets of the Esquilino, to the south, are cheaper but less pleasant at night.

If you’d rather be in the old town, see the hotels in Rome city centre or our guide to the best areas to stay in Rome.
