What is the Trevi Fountain?
It is the most famous baroque fountain in Rome, where tradition says you throw a coin over your shoulder to make sure you return. It stands in a small square in the centre, between the Quirinal and Via del Corso.
Getting there
By metro, Barberini and Spagna on line A. From Termini it is two metro stops or a 20-minute walk. From the fountain you can walk to the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps.
When rooms are hardest to find
From April to October, at Easter and at Christmas. It is one of the most sought-after areas of Rome and it is worth booking ahead.
Which area to choose
The streets around the fountain have small hotels in old buildings, right in the centre. Towards Via Veneto and Barberini there are larger hotels, and the area around the Spanish Steps has the luxury ones.
