Where to stay in Reinosa: the best areas

Reinosa centre

The heart of the town revolves around Plaza de España, the avenue of the Carlos III bridge and Calle Mayor. Here you have the church of San Sebastián, mansions with coats of arms and the riverside walk along the Ebro close by. Almost everything is on foot, and it's where you'll find the most bars, bakeries and shops open in the evening.

The station on the Palencia to Santander line is right next to the centre, so you can arrive and get around without a car. It suits solo travellers, couples and business visitors who want everything to hand.

Best-rated in this area: Apartamentos Ebro Reinosa, with a score of 8.5 from 720 reviews.

Matamorosa and the south of town

Matamorosa almost merges with Reinosa to the south and has more of a village feel, with low houses and vegetable gardens. It has good links to the A-67 motorway and an easy route towards Cervatos and the ruins of Julióbriga. It suits those touring Campoo by car who prefer to head out each morning without crossing narrow streets.

Fontibre and Nestares

To the west, Fontibre holds the spring where the Ebro rises, surrounded by meadows and trees. It's a small, silent hamlet, for sleeping with countryside views and driving down to Reinosa for dinner in a few minutes.

Nestares lies in the same direction, on the road up to the Alto Campoo ski resort. In winter you're closer than the centre if you're coming to ski, and in summer you have hill walks from the door. A car is advisable, as services are scarce.

Ebro reservoir shores

To the east, villages such as Requejo overlook the tail of the reservoir. It's an area of rural houses with outdoor space, good for families or groups who want calm, walks along the shore and waterbird watching. Nights are cool even in August, and in winter it often freezes, so bring warm clothes.
