Where to stay in Noja: the best areas

Ris beach

Ris is Noja's most sheltered beach, and around it much of summer life happens: ice-cream parlours, restaurants, bike hire and beach shops. Families choose it because the water is usually calmer and children can play at the water's edge at low tide. In the evenings the promenade fills with people.

Trengandín and the marshes

West of the village lies Trengandín, a long beach with dunes and waves that attracts surfers and those who want to walk for kilometres on the sand. Behind it are apartment developments, campsites and the Victoria marsh. It is a good place for those who prefer space and silence, although you will need a bike or car to go into the centre for dinner.

From here the path around the marshes sets off, ideal for a sunset walk and birdwatching.

The village centre

Between the two beaches is the old core, with the parish church of San Pedro and some stone mansions. From here you can walk to Ris or Trengandín without taking the car out of the garage. It suits long stays, because you have supermarkets, a pharmacy and services open all year. Outside summer it is also the liveliest part, as many beach developments are left almost empty.

Castillo Siete Villas and Arnuero

If Noja feels too busy in August, look at the neighbouring municipality of Arnuero. In Castillo Siete Villas you can visit the old Santa Olaja tide mill, and the pace is more rural, with stone houses and meadows. You will need a car, but you will be very close to Noja's beaches and the Isla coast. It is an interesting alternative for groups or families renting a whole house.
