The harbour and the Maza bridge

The lower part of San Vicente stretches along the estuary, from the fishing port to the Maza bridge. This is where the seafood restaurants, waterside terraces and most shops are. Sleeping here lets you have dinner without the car and walk up to the upper town in the morning. In summer it is busy until late, so it is not the quietest corner.

La Puebla Vieja

Up top, by the Castillo del Rey and the Gothic church of Santa María de los Ángeles, with what remains of the wall around them, the atmosphere changes. The streets are stone with little traffic, and from some houses you see both the marshes and the peaks of the Picos de Europa. It appeals to couples and heritage lovers. Bear in mind there are slopes and parking inside the walls is difficult.

Merón and Oyambre

Across the bridge begins Merón beach, a long stretch of sand with waves and surf schools. Around it are campsites, apartments and houses with gardens, made for families spending the day on the sand.

Further east, the Oyambre Natural Park protects dunes, marshes and a wide beach. Staying nearby is the option for nature lovers who don’t mind depending on the car to get into town.

La Revilla and the inland villages

To the south and west are hamlets such as La Revilla or Abaño, with manor houses and rural cottages among meadows. They are good for quiet stays and as a starting point for Potes, Fuente Dé and eastern Asturias, reached by the Cantabrian motorway. To dine at the port or go down to the beach you will need a car, though the drives are short.
