Where to stay in Durango: the best areas
Old town
Durango’s old town is small and flat, between the basilica of Santa María de Uribarri, with its great wooden portico, and the Arco de Santa Ana. Staying here puts the pintxo bars, the Kurutzesantu museum and the Museum of Art and History within walking distance. In early December, during the Durangoko Azoka, there is not a bed to be had.
Best-rated in this area: Juego Bolos Ostatua, with a score of 9.3 from 140 reviews.
Rural districts and Urkiola
Towards the Urkiola Natural Park are farm stays and farmhouses, closer to the routes up Anboto and to the Urkiola sanctuary. They are for travelling by car and early starts.
Bilbao
With the motorway and the Euskotren railway, Bilbao is less than half an hour away: it is the fallback when Durango is full or if you want to combine both visits.
