Staying near the Movistar Arena: what you need to know

What is the Movistar Arena?

The Movistar Arena is the former Palacio de los Deportes of the Community of Madrid, rebuilt after a fire in 2001 and reopened in 2005. From 2017 to 2024 it was called the WiZink Center. It stands in the Goya neighbourhood of the Salamanca district and is the city’s main indoor venue for concerts, holding around 15,000 people, and for basketball.

How to get there

The nearest metro stations are Goya (lines 2 and 4), five minutes away, and O’Donnell (line 6). The Puerta de Alcalá and the Retiro are about ten minutes’ walk, and Sol twenty minutes on foot or a few stops on line 2.

When the hotels fill up

There are concerts almost every week, and tours by international artists fill the hotels of the Salamanca district, which are already in demand for shopping and business trips. If you are coming for a concert, book as soon as you buy your ticket.

Which area to choose

Around the Movistar Arena are the shopping streets of Goya and Velázquez, with shops, markets and restaurants. To the south lies the Retiro and, across it, the more residential Ibiza neighbourhood. After a concert, staying less than a kilometre away means you can walk back.
