Centre, castle and port

The town centre revolves around the castle-fortress and the square around it. A few streets away are the fishing port, the fish market and the quay where boats leave for Tabarca. Staying here, you have the rice dishes and fish of the port restaurants close by and can walk to the beach. In the morning you can watch the fish auction and in the afternoon stroll to Levante beach.

It is the best area if you are not bringing a car: buses to Alicante and Elche leave from here, and all services are nearby.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Polamar, with a score of 7.8 from 1,799 reviews.

Gran Playa and Playa Lisa

West of the port stretch the Gran Playa and, beyond it, Playa Lisa, with fine sand and shallow water. Behind them are apartment blocks, a promenade and beach bars. It is what families with young children look for. From the end of Playa Lisa you are a step from the Salinas, where you can see flamingos from viewpoints along the road.

Best-rated in this area: Brisa del Mar - Santa Pola, with a score of 9.8 from 55 reviews.

Santa Pola del Este and the cape

To the east, the town gives way to villas and apartments at the foot of the hills, with rocky coves and good spots for diving. It is quieter than the centre and appeals to those who come to snorkel or walk to the lighthouse on the cape. For dinner or the port, a car or bike will come in handy.

Gran Alacant

High on the hills to the north, Gran Alacant is a large development with apartments, villas and its own shops. It leads down to CarabassΓ beach, with dunes and pines, and is very close to Alicante-Elche airport. It suits long stays, or people arriving by plane who want to drive along the coast.

Best-rated in this area: Casa Tarca Gran Alacant, with a score of 9.6 from 56 reviews.
