The town and the harbour

Llanes old town keeps remains of its walls, the Basilica of Santa María del Concejo and grand houses built by returning emigrants. The harbour, with the Cubes of Memory painted by Agustín Ibarrola, is the meeting point, and the Paseo de San Pedro, along the clifftops, starts here. A few steps away are El Sablón and Puerto Chico beaches, and a little further Toró.

It is the best option if you do not have a car: the coastal train and the buses stop here. In summer the cider houses are packed until late.

Poo, Celorio and Barro

West of the town, these three villages have small, sheltered beaches, ideal with children. Poo has a beach in an inlet beside the estuary, Celorio has a string of beaches such as Palombina and Borizo, and Barro looks onto an open beach dotted with islets. From Poo you can walk to Llanes along the coast. The coastal train stops at Poo and Celorio, although it runs only a few times a day and a car helps a lot.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel La Encina Celorio Llanes PARKING, with a score of 8.4 from 686 reviews.

Cue and Andrín

To the east, Cue and Andrín are villages of stone houses and meadows running down to the sea. Andrín beach, in a secluded cove, and the Boriza viewpoint are their big attractions. There are rural houses and apartments for anyone seeking total rest who does not mind driving out for dinner.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel La Boriza, with a score of 9.6 from 19 reviews.

Posada and the interior

Posada de Llanes and the villages in its valley lie between the coast and the Sierra del Cuera. It is a good spot if you are combining the beach with trips to Cangas de Onís, Covadonga and the Picos de Europa, because the motorway is close. There are plenty of village houses with gardens, comfortable for families or groups.

Best-rated in this area: Buga II, with a score of 9.2 from 62 reviews.
