Taramundi village

The small village of Taramundi brings together the church, the square, the restaurants and the craft knife shops that made the municipality famous. Staying here lets you visit the workshops and eat out on foot, and several waymarked routes start from the village itself. At night it is very quiet. It is the most convenient base if you are coming for the first time or do not want to use the car every day.

Os Teixóis and the water route

A few kilometres away, the hamlet of Os Teixóis keeps an ethnographic complex with a trip hammer, mill, grinding wheel and small power station, all driven by the river. You can drive there or walk the water route from the village, through riverside woods. Along the way you will see channels and old water-powered workings.

There are rural houses around here for those who want to sleep surrounded by trees and hear the water at night. It is your place if you are coming to walk and are interested in the history of iron.

Villages of the municipality

The rest of Taramundi is a landscape of hills, chestnut trees and slate villages such as Bres or Esquíos, with houses restored as rural accommodation. Taramundi was one of the first places in Spain to bet on this kind of tourism, and it shows in the care taken over the houses. They are ideal for long stays and families looking for peace, but the roads are narrow and a car is necessary.

Towards Los Oscos and the Eo

From the edges of the municipality you can drive down to Vegadeo and the Eo estuary, or up to the Los Oscos area. Staying in this strip lets you combine Taramundi with the coast and villages such as Santa Eulalia de Oscos. It is very sparsely populated, with few places to eat in the evening, so plan your meals.
