Where to stay in Cudillero: the best areas

The village and the harbour

If you stay in the amphitheatre of houses running down to Plaza de la Marina, the harbour, cider houses and viewpoints are a step away. At night, once the groups have gone, the village regains its calm and you can walk the quay to the lighthouse with no one around. Couples and those after the picture-postcard Cudillero usually prefer it. The streets are narrow and steep, and there is almost no room to park, so pack light and ask where to leave the car before you arrive.

El Pito

On the plateau above the village is El Pito, with the Selgas Palace and its gardens. It is a flat area with grand houses built by returning emigrants, more room to park and everyday shops. To get down to the harbour you can walk down a sloping path or drive. It is chosen by those travelling by car who want to explore the western coast comfortably.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel El Rosal de Cudillero, with a score of 9.7 from 741 reviews.

Artedo and the Concha de Artedo

West of the village, the hamlet of Artedo looks over the Concha de Artedo, a wide beach of sand and pebbles at a river mouth. There are rural houses and apartments surrounded by meadows, with the sea very close. It is a good option for families who want a real beach, because Cudillero harbour has no sand for swimming.

Towards Soto de Luiña and Cabo Vidío

Further west, the coast continues past Soto de Luiña, Oviñana and Cabo Vidío, with cliffs and Silencio beach. It is a land of hamlets, restored village houses and coastal footpaths. People who stay here want nature, silence and walks, and do not mind driving to the harbour for dinner. Bear in mind that many hamlets have no shop or bar open all year.
