Where to stay in Tapia de Casariego: the best areas

Harbour and town centre

The sloping streets that lead down to the fishing harbour hold Tapia's life: cider houses, fish restaurants, shops and the promenade facing the island with its lighthouse. From here everything is on foot, including the walk down to the town beaches. If you want to eat out and stroll back, this is your spot. In summer, the walk out towards the island is where everyone meets in the evening.

Anguileiro and La Paloma

Right by the town, Anguileiro beach is the surfing reference point of western Asturias and home to several surf schools. Next to it is La Paloma, smaller and more sheltered. Staying on this edge of town lets you check the sea from your window and carry your board without taking the car.

It's the favourite area for surfers and for families who want the sand nearby without giving up the services of the centre.

Serantes and Salave

Along the coast of the municipality, meadows run to the cliff edge and beaches such as Serantes. Very close is the Salave lagoon, formed in an old Roman-era gold mine, with a short trail around it. There are village houses and rural accommodation for those who want to rest with the sea in the background. Here you sleep to the sound of the waves, with hardly any traffic.

Penarronda and the Castropol border

On the border with Castropol lies Penarronda beach, wide and backed by dunes, popular with surfers when there's a swell. Around it there are only scattered houses and campsites, with no town centre. From here the Eo estuary and the crossing into Galicia are close, useful if you plan to visit Ribadeo or the A Mariña coast. Without your own car, getting around is hard.
