Where to stay in Ruidera: the best areas

The village and the Laguna del Rey

Ruidera stretches beside the Laguna del Rey and the El Hundimiento waterfall, so in the village itself you're already facing the water. Here are the bars, shops and activity companies, and the N-430 road passes through on its way to Albacete.

It's the best option if you want to do everything on foot in the evening, eat out and not depend on the car for every errand. In summer it's busier, and out of season many businesses cut their hours. In spring, with the lakes full, the sound of water falling over El Hundimiento can be heard from several streets.

Best-rated in this area: Hostal La Noria, with a score of 9.1 from 1,314 reviews.

Shores of La Colgada and La Batana

Heading up from the village along the lakes road you find houses, apartments and chalets beside La Colgada, La Batana and Santo Morcillo. What you gain is waking up to the water and stepping down to the shore without going anywhere. It's popular with families and groups who come for several days in summer to swim in the permitted areas or paddle. Many places here are rented by the week in July and August.

The shops are in Ruidera, so you'll need the car for groceries and dinner. Before booking, ask whether the house has direct access to the water or you need to cross the road.

Upper lakes and Montesinos

Towards the stretch of La Redondilla, La Lengua and San Pedro, the setting is more natural and buildings are sparser. From here the Cueva de Montesinos and the quieter trails are close. It's a place for nature, birdwatching and rest. There are rural houses and campsites with few services around, and at night there's hardly any artificial light. It's a good idea to arrive with water and supplies, as the nearest shops are in Ruidera or Ossa de Montiel.
