Where to stay in Daimiel: the best areas
Plaza de España and the centre
The Plaza de España and the surrounding streets have the bars, shops and restaurants serving Manchego cooking. A short distance away are the churches of Santa María and San Pedro and the Regional Museum, which you can see in the late afternoon on your way back from the countryside.
The road to Las Tablas starts here, so an early start for the birds is easy. Staying in the centre lets you have dinner and stroll without taking the car again. If you are doing the long boardwalk route, buy water and food here before setting off.
Best-rated in this area: Hotel Las Tablas, with a score of 8.4 from 826 reviews.
Residential districts
Around the old town spread streets of low houses, quiet and with more on-street parking. You will find tourist flats and whole houses, designed for families or groups staying several days who prefer to cook. Many are houses with patios, very typical of La Mancha and welcome for their coolness in summer.
On the way to Las Tablas
Between the town and the National Park there are estates and rural houses surrounded by vineyards and cereal fields. It is the choice for birdwatchers: you are closer to the boardwalks first thing, when the wetland is most active.
At night the silence is total. There is no public transport, so a car is essential for everything. Bring binoculars, and warm clothes if you come in winter, when mornings in the Manchego countryside are very cold.
Towards the Motilla del Azuer
The Motilla site is out in the countryside, outside the town. The farmhouses in that part of the municipality leave you close to the guided visit and well placed for heading to Almagro or Ciudad Real. It suits you if you are touring the Campo de Calatrava over several days.
