Where to stay in Consuegra: the best areas

Plaza de España and the centre

On the Plaza de España you have the town hall and the Corredor, with its arcaded gallery, and around them the bars and restaurants where you can try Manchego cooking. Very close is the Municipal Museum, with pieces from Roman Consaburum, and the streets with shops selling saffron and Manchego cheese. It is the liveliest part of town, especially in the evening.

It suits you if you arrive without a fixed plan and prefer to go out to dinner without the car. There are few places to stay in Consuegra, so on festival weekends they fill up early.

Best-rated in this area: El Patio de los Jazmines Boutique-House, with a score of 9.5 from 1,215 reviews.

Slopes of Cerro Calderico

The streets climbing towards Cerro Calderico leave the windmills and the La Muela castle right above you. From here you can walk up at dawn, when there are hardly any visitors, and come down to the centre for breakfast. These are steep, quiet streets with low whitewashed houses. They suit those coming to take photos or wanting to see the windmills in soft light, before the coaches arrive.

Banks of the Amarguillo

The river Amarguillo crosses the town and has a tree-lined walk along its banks. It is a flat residential area, comfortable for families and for those who prefer to avoid slopes. On the outskirts, following its course, are the remains of the dam built by the Romans. From these streets the hill is still in view and the centre is an easy walk.

Exits along the CM-400

The CM-400 road, linking Toledo with Alcázar de San Juan, runs through Consuegra. At its access points there are places to stay with room for the car, useful if you are touring La Mancha and want to continue to Madridejos, Campo de Criptana or other windmill villages.
