Plaza Mayor and San Andrés

Sleeping by the Plaza Mayor means opening your window onto its wooden galleries and arcades. The square is presided over by San Andrés, the church where Quevedo's remains lie, and under the arches you have bars for breakfast and an evening drink.

It is the area for those arriving without a car or wanting to walk everywhere. At night, once the tour groups leave, the square gets its village atmosphere back.

Santo Domingo and the armorial houses

Between the Santo Domingo convent, the Alhóndiga and the old Santiago hospital, one manor house follows another, with coats of arms carved over the doors. Some of these hidalgo homes have become rural houses and small hotels with inner courtyards. Many keep iron grilles, wooden doors and columned patios.

These are silent streets, a few steps from the square. They appeal to couples and to those who value sleeping in a building with history.

Newer streets and village entrances

In the newer streets, on the edge of the old town, there are holiday homes and places to stay with easy parking. They are practical for families and for those using Infantes as a base to explore the Campo de Montiel each day. The everyday shops are here too, handy if you are going to cook.

Campo de Montiel

Around the town are estates and country houses among holm oaks, olive trees and farmland. They offer space, a pool in some cases and very dark skies at night. They are for those who want to switch off and do not mind driving a few minutes to dine on the Plaza Mayor.

From here you are well placed for San Carlos del Valle, Montiel and, a little further, the Lagunas de Ruidera. The local roads are quiet, but there is little lighting at night.
