Plaza de la Hora and Ducal Palace

The Plaza de la Hora is a large esplanade open to the valley, presided over by the Ducal Palace. From it you can see the grille of the window where the Princess of Éboli was confined. Staying around here puts you next to Pastrana's most famous sight, with fine views over the Alcarria at sunset. It suits a first visit and couples. At weekends the square gets many day visitors, but at night it falls silent again.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Palaterna, with a score of 9.1 from 658 reviews.

Collegiate church and Calle Mayor

The Calle Mayor climbs from the square to the collegiate church, whose museum holds the Gothic Pastrana tapestries. Along it and in nearby streets are mansions with coats of arms, restaurants serving Alcarria food and small honey shops. It is the most central part of the old town. Choose it if you want to do everything on foot and have places to eat nearby.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Palaterna, with a score of 9.1 from 658 reviews.

Albaicín quarter

The Albaicín is Pastrana's old Morisco quarter. Its narrow, steep streets have a more local and quieter feel than the centre. There are plenty of rural houses and holiday flats, practical if you are travelling with family or friends and want your own kitchen. Walking its alleys in the morning, before the groups arrive, is one of the town's pleasures.

Convento del Carmen and surroundings

On the outskirts, on the road to the Carmelite convent founded by St Teresa, the fields and olive groves begin. In this area and in neighbouring villages there are rural houses with gardens and parking. They suit you if you arrive by car and want to combine Pastrana with other Alcarria towns, such as Zorita de los Canes, with its castle above the Tagus and the Visigothic site of Recópolis.
