What is Bilbao’s Old Town?

The Casco Viejo is Bilbao’s oldest neighbourhood, on the banks of the estuary, with the medieval Seven Streets, Santiago Cathedral, the arcaded Plaza Nueva and the La Ribera market. It is the place for pintxos and long-established shops.

How to get there

Casco Viejo metro station, on lines 1 and 2, is in the neighbourhood, and the tram stops by the Arriaga Theatre and La Ribera. Abando station, with long-distance trains, is five minutes’ walk away across the river.
