Spas by the Jalón

Alhama's spas are spread along the Jalón river, in the lower part of town. This is where the thermal lake is, fed by the hot springs that have made the town famous since Roman times. Staying in this area puts the spa circuit, gardens and riverside walk on your doorstep. It suits couples and older visitors coming to rest, often with treatments included.

Town and castle

Above the town stand the remains of the castle, with its tower visible from the road. Around the old centre there are rentals and simple places to stay, with bars and shops nearby. If you are coming as a couple or with friends and do not want to pay for the spa every night, this area lets you get around on foot and book single spa sessions.

Alhama has a station on the conventional Madrid–Zaragoza line. If you are coming without a car, check the timetables beforehand.

Bubierca and Cetina

Following the Jalón valley, Bubierca is downstream and Cetina upstream, both a short distance along the A-2 motorway. They are small villages with rural houses and a quiet life. They suit you if you want lower prices or a village atmosphere away from the spa bustle. From either you can drive to Alhama in no time, and to Calatayud if you want to see its old town.

Towards the Monasterio de Piedra

If your main plan is the Monasterio de Piedra, you can also look for accommodation in Nuévalos, next to the park and the La Tranquera reservoir. From Alhama it is a drive along a local road, so it is easy to combine spa and waterfalls on the same trip. Book ahead for long weekends, when the area gets many visitors from Zaragoza and Madrid.
