Where to stay in Valderrobres: the best areas

Old Town

Inside the walls, between the San Roque gate and the castle, are stone houses with small places to stay and a restaurant or two. Sleeping here is the way to see the square and the slope up to the church in silence at night, once the day visitors leave. The streets are steep and cobbled, so travel light and leave the car below. Beside the castle you also get open views over the rooftops and the valley at dusk.

It is the prettiest option for couples and short breaks.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Querol, with a score of 9.4 from 1,830 reviews.

Across the Matarraña

Crossing the Gothic bridge to the opposite bank you reach the more modern part, with the road, the car park, shops and bars. Staying here is convenient with a car or children: you arrive without slopes, have services, and the old town is a stroll away across the bridge. From several streets you get the classic view of the village reflected in the water.

Surrounding farmhouses

Scattered across the olive and almond groves around the village are restored farmhouses and rural houses. They offer space, sometimes a pool, and very dark night skies. They suit families, groups and those exploring the area by car, although any shopping or dinner means driving. From many of them Calaceite, La Fresneda or Cretas are a short drive.

Beceite

A few kilometres upriver is Beceite, a stone village with its own bridge and gateway to the Parrizal and the Puertos de Beceite. It is the most logical base for hikers, because the trails start almost at the door. It has rural houses, bars and a quiet atmosphere, and Valderrobres is very close for dinner or shopping.
