Plaza de España and the old town

Plaza de España is the hub of life in Alcañiz. Opposite you are the Gothic Lonja, the town hall and the collegiate church of Santa María la Mayor, and from here run the streets with bars and restaurants serving Bajo Aragón cooking. It is also the entry area for the underground passages.

It is the logical choice for a one- or two-day cultural break. You see everything on foot and at night there are terraces at the door. In Holy Week, with the drums and bass drums, the centre is where the noise and atmosphere are greatest.

Pui Pinos hill and the castle

The castle of the Order of Calatrava crowns the Pui Pinos hill and now operates as a parador. Sleeping at the top gives you views over the old town, the Guadalope meander and the plain. In return, getting down to the centre involves a slope you will feel on the way back.

Along the Guadalope

The river Guadalope wraps around the old town and has riverside walks and green spaces. The districts near the bank are residential and quiet, with wider streets than the historic centre, making it easier to park nearby. The old town is an easy stroll away.

It works well for families or for stays of several days, combining walks around town with trips to Calanda or the Matarraña.

Towards Motorland

The Motorland circuit is on the outskirts of Alcañiz. If you are coming for a race, a track day or a course, it pays to stay at that edge of town or in the housing estates and rural cottages nearby. You save time on the access roads, which get jammed on race days.
