Where to stay in Teruel: the best areas

Plaza del Torico and around

Plaza del Torico, with its column topped by a little bull, is the city’s meeting point. Around it are the cathedral of Santa María de Mediavilla, the Mudéjar towers of San Martín and El Salvador and the church of San Pedro, home to the Mausoleum of the Lovers. Everything is a few streets away, so it is the best area for a first visit and for going out for tapas at night.

Paseo del Óvalo and the Escalinata

Paseo del Óvalo runs along the edge of the old town on the train station side. From it descends the Escalinata, a neo-Mudéjar stairway linking the centre with the station in a short walk. It is a practical area if you arrive by train and want to be a step from the old town. It also has open views over the Turia plain.

Best-rated in this area: El Mudayyan, with a score of 9.0 from 5,681 reviews.

The Ensanche

Crossing the Viaduct, which spans the ravine of the Rambla de San Julián, you reach the Ensanche. It is a residential district with wider streets, shops and everyday services. Parking is usually easier here and hotels are more modern. The centre is a few minutes’ walk across the Viaduct itself, with good views of the old city.

It is a good option for business trips or if you will be driving around the province, with Albarracín or the Sierra de Gúdar as day trips.

Outskirts and Dinópolis

On the outskirts, by the motorway junctions, there are places to stay aimed at drivers passing through. Dinópolis, the dinosaur park, is nearby, so it is a convenient area if you are travelling with children and want to spend the day there. To reach the old town you will need a car or the city bus.
