Old town and the collegiate church

The village clings to the rock below the collegiate church of Santa María la Mayor. If you sleep inside the walls, you have the arcaded Plaza Mayor, the viewpoints over the canyon and the start of the walkway route on your doorstep. At nightfall the streets empty of day trippers and you can stroll them almost alone.

Village entrance by the road

In the lower part, where the car parks are and the road arrives from Barbastro, there are apartments and houses with easier access. You avoid hauling your suitcase up the slopes and are still a few steps from the old town. It suits families with pushchairs, people with reduced mobility and groups setting out early for canyoning in Guara. At night, the walk up to the floodlit old town is a pleasant stroll.

Radiquero

Very close by, Radiquero is a hamlet within the same municipality, surrounded by olive and almond trees. It has rural houses and a very relaxed atmosphere. From here you see Alquézar silhouetted against the sierra. It is an alternative for those who want total silence and to drive around the Somontano and its wineries. Its church and stone streets can be covered in a short walk.

Colungo and Asque

Colungo houses the interpretation centre for the river Vero rock art, the starting point for visiting the painted shelters. It is a quiet village with the odd rural place to stay, a few kilometres from Alquézar. Very close by, the hamlet of Asque, with stone houses, appears on the road into the sierra.
