Where to stay in Cala Galdana: the best areas

Bay front

The buildings around the beach have the sand and calm water in front of them, with a promenade linking both ends of the cove. Almost all the restaurants, ice-cream parlours and shops are here, so you do not need the car day to day. It is what families with young children usually choose, because the bay is sheltered and gets few waves. In high summer it is quite busy during the day, and at sunset the cove becomes calm again.

Mouth of the Algendar gorge

At one end of the beach, the stream reaches the sea in a small channel with moored boats and a bridge across to the other side of the cove, by the rocks. Around it are terraces and apartments with views of the water and the pines. It is a good area for anyone who wants to be close to the beach but a little away from the central bustle. The path into the green, shady gorge starts here.

The upper development

Above the cliffs, the streets that climb from the beach have apartments, villas and houses with gardens, many with pools. You gain space, views from above and very quiet nights, in exchange for walking up and down slopes every day. It suits groups of friends and families travelling by car. From these streets you quickly join the Camí de Cavalls towards Cala Mitjana or Macarella.

Bear in mind that Cala Galdana is purely a holiday resort. For a market, squares with local life and more bars, the town of Ferreries is up the road in the interior of Menorca, and Ciutadella is about twenty kilometres away on the main road.
