Where to stay in Porto Cristo: the best areas

The harbour and seafront

The heart of Porto Cristo is the long, narrow cove where the beach, the marina and the promenade meet. Staying here puts the sand, ice-cream parlours and fish restaurants a few steps away, and you can get around without a car.

It suits families and anyone who wants to go out to dinner and walk back. The beach is small and fills up early in August, so get there early if you want a spot. In the evening, a stroll along the pontoons is the favourite plan of locals and visitors alike.

Around the Caves of Drach

The Caves of Drach are on the southern edge of town, on the road that continues to the coves. From the streets in that area you can walk to the entrance without worrying about parking at the busiest times. The Caves of Hams are on the way out towards Manacor, a short drive away. It is a quiet residential area, with the centre a walk away.

S'Illot and Punta de n'Amer

To the north, S'Illot is a resort with a sandy beach and shallow water, easy for children. Very close is the Punta de n'Amer peninsula, a protected natural area with paths and a defence tower. If you like walking by the sea without buildings, it is easy from here. A short road leads to Porto Cristo, and you can also go to Sa Coma, on the other side of the peninsula.

Cala Anguila and Cala Mendia

To the south, these two coves share a development with apartments and complexes with pools. It is a choice for beach holidays, with turquoise water and pale sand on the doorstep. For other visits, including the walk to Cala Varques, a car is advisable.

If you are looking for something more urban and affordable, Manacor is a few kilometres inland. There you have shops, a market and a town atmosphere that does not depend on tourism.
