Centre and Cala Gran

The heart of Cala d'Or lies around Cala Gran, with streets of white houses, shops and terraces a few steps from the sand. From here you can walk to Cala d'Or, Cala Esmeralda and the small fort above the sea. It is the area chosen by families who do not want to use the car every day and prefer to go down to the beach with everything to hand. In August the coves fill up early, so get there early if you want a spot on the sand.

Marina and Cala Llonga

The marina fills the long inlet of Cala Llonga and has restaurants, ice-cream parlours and bars that liven up at night. Sleeping in this part lets you walk out to dinner and drinks. It is also convenient if you are going to hire a boat or take a boat trip along the coast. Places overlooking the marina can get some noise on summer nights.

From the marina, a waterside walk takes you to the centre and the main coves.

Cala Ferrera and Cala Serena

North of the centre, these two coves form a residential area with pines, apartments and complexes with pools. They belong to the municipality of Felanitx. They are quieter than the marina and appeal to families with small children, who have swimming close by without the bustle of the centre. To go out to dinner at the marina you can walk a while or take the car.

Portopetro

To the south, Portopetro is an old fishing harbour with low houses and a few restaurants by the water. Its atmosphere is more relaxed, ideal for couples. It is close to the Mondragó Natural Park and its coves, reached by car along a minor road. Santanyí, with its market and golden stone streets, is also nearby for a different afternoon.
