Where to stay in Santa Ponsa: the best areas

The beach and Avenida Jaume I

The main beach fills the head of the bay and has fine sand and calm water. Very close by runs Avenida Jaume I, the street with the most bars, British-style pubs and restaurants, lively until late in season. Staying around here puts the beach, the shops and the bus stops a few steps away. It suits anyone looking for atmosphere who does not rely on a car. If you would rather sleep without music, look in the more residential streets that climb up from the beach.

The marina and Nova Santa Ponsa

On the north side of the bay, the marina has sailing boats, diving schools and boat trips to the Malgrat islands. Behind it lies Nova Santa Ponsa, a residential area with villas and golf courses. The pace is slower, and the Creu de la Conquesta is a short walk away. It suits golfers, sea lovers and families who want peace.

Costa de la Calma

To the west, Costa de la Calma has small coves among rocks, pine woods and sloping residential streets. There are apartments and smaller complexes than on the main beach, with a family atmosphere. To reach the centre of Santa Ponsa you can walk along the coast or drive. Choose it if you want rest and do not mind the odd hill. The coves are small, but usually less crowded than the big beach.

Best-rated in this area: Hilton Mallorca Galatzo, with a score of 8.1 from 2,128 reviews.

Peguera

A little further west, Peguera has several beaches in a row and a pedestrian boulevard with shops and terraces. It has a calm, family atmosphere, very popular with German visitors and older travellers. From here it is easy to get to Port d’Andratx and the Serra de Tramuntana. It is an alternative for anyone who prefers a beach town with a life of its own, without the late-night bustle.
