Palmanova and its beaches

The centre of Palmanova is laid out around three sandy beaches in a row: Son Maties, Palmanova and es Carregador. The water is usually calm, the sand slopes gently and the promenade has restaurants, ice-cream parlours and shops. It is an area chosen by families and couples who want a beach without the noise of neighbouring Magaluf. Intercity buses link the area with Palma throughout the day, and you can walk along the coast to the nearby beaches without taking the car.

Magaluf

Right next door to the west, Magaluf has a wide beach facing the islet of sa Porrassa and one of the best-known nightlife areas in Majorca, Punta Ballena street. It suits you if you are travelling in a group and want clubs and bars open until late. On the beachfront there are renovated resorts and more families than before, but the nights are still intense in summer.

Best-rated in this area: SOL by MeliΓ‘ Lunamar Palmanova Apartamentos - Adults Only, with a score of 8.6 from 1,344 reviews.

Son Caliu

East of Palmanova, this small residential area surrounds a sandy cove with calm water. There are few bars and hardly any traffic, so it works for couples and families who want peace. You reach Palmanova with a walk along the coast, and buses to Palma leave from there.

Best-rated in this area: Aparthotel Ponent Mar, with a score of 9.6 from 2,647 reviews.

Portals Nous and Puerto Portals

A little closer to Palma, Portals Nous is a residential area with villas on the hillside and small coves. Below it is Puerto Portals, a marina with yachts, restaurants and fashion shops. It is the most exclusive area of the bay, for anyone looking for a polished setting and good food. From here you get to Palma quickly on the motorway, and the city is closer than from Palmanova.
