Es Riuet and the harbour

Es Riuet is the most photogenic part of Portocolom: fishermen's huts with slipways and brightly painted doors facing the bay. Around it are the harbour, waterside bars and fish and rice restaurants.

Staying here lets you stroll along the water's edge morning and evening. It suits couples and anyone who prefers a fishing-village atmosphere to beach resorts. The bay is wide and sheltered, so you will see traditional llaΓΌt boats and yachts at anchor almost all year.

S'Arenal and the centre

The town beach of s'Arenal is right in the village, next to the promenade. There are shops, supermarkets and ice-cream parlours around it, and you can get through the day without the car. It is convenient for families who want sand nearby and every service at hand, with the shop and pharmacy around the corner.

Best-rated in this area: Buenavista, with a score of 9.8 from 11 reviews.

Cala Marçal

Cala Marçal is on the south side, with a sheltered sandy cove and calm water. This is where the beach hotels and apartments with pools are concentrated. It is the choice for anyone coming to swim almost all day and snorkel among the rocks at either end. You can reach the centre and Es Riuet by walking along the coast or with a short drive.

Sa Punta and the lighthouse

At the tip of the bay, the lighthouse area has houses and villas with views of the open sea. It is the quietest area, with rocks and small spots for swimming. It has very few services, so you will need a car.

From Portocolom, Felanitx and the Sant Salvador sanctuary lie inland. To the south, the coves of Cala d'Or and Cala Ferrera are a short drive away.

Best-rated in this area: Buenavista, with a score of 9.8 from 11 reviews.
