What is Chueca?

Chueca is the district north of Gran Vía, between Calle Fuencarral and Paseo de Recoletos, around the square named after the composer Federico Chueca. It is Madrid’s LGBTQ+ neighbourhood and one of its liveliest, with the San Antón market, design shops, restaurants and bars open until late.

Getting around from here

Chueca station (line 5) is on the square, Gran Vía (1 and 5) on its southern edge and Alonso Martínez (4, 5 and 10) to the north. Sol is ten minutes’ walk away, and line 5 takes you to Callao and Plaza de España in a few stops.

When rooms are hardest to find

During Madrid Pride, in early July, when the neighbourhood is the heart of the party and hotels fill up months ahead. Weekends, long weekends and big trade fair weeks at IFEMA also push prices up.

Which area to choose
