Where to stay in Verona: the best areas
Historic centre
Inside the bend of the Adige, between Piazza Bra and Piazza delle Erbe, there are hotels in historic buildings, B&Bs and apartments. The Arena, Juliet's House and Castelvecchio are a few minutes' walk away. It is the most convenient area and also the most sought-after during the opera season.
Veronetta
Across the river, this district has a student feel and smaller, simpler places to stay. It sits by the Ponte Pietra, the Roman theatre and the climb up to Castel San Pietro. At night there are bars popular with students and the centre is a short walk away.
San Zeno and Borgo Trento
San Zeno, around its Romanesque basilica, is a quiet district with guesthouses and small trattorias. Borgo Trento, across the Adige, is residential and has hotels and apartments with more space. From both you walk to the centre along the riverbanks.
Porta Nuova station
Around the station there are functional and chain hotels, practical if you arrive by train or plan day trips to Lake Garda or Venice. The centre is a walk along Corso Porta Nuova or a few bus stops away. There is usually more availability when the centre fills up.
