Barruera and Erill la Vall

Barruera is the largest village in the valley and has a supermarket, petrol station and most of the services. Its church of Sant Feliu is part of the Romanesque group declared a World Heritage Site. A short distance away, Erill la Vall is home to the Centre del Romànic, the valley's information point, and the slender tower of Santa Eulàlia.

Staying here puts you in the middle of the valley, a few kilometres from all the churches. It is the most versatile area if you come by car and want to see them in a day or two.

Boí

Boí has the church of Sant Joan, with reproductions of its murals. From the village, taxis go up to the western entrance of the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, making it the base for those coming to walk in the park. It has mountain hotels and rural houses on stone streets.

Taüll and Pla de l'Ermita

Taüll has two of the valley's best-known churches, Sant Climent and Santa Maria, and open views over the mountains. Just above it, the Pla de l'Ermita development brings together apartments and places to stay a few kilometres from the Boí Taüll ski resort. In winter it is the natural choice for skiers; in summer, for families who want space and cool air.

Durro and Caldes de Boí

Durro, on a hillside above the valley, has the church of La Nativitat and the chapel of Sant Quirc higher up. It is small and silent, for couples looking to switch off. At the head of the valley, Caldes de Boí has its thermal spa near the Cavallers reservoir, a good starting point for high-mountain routes. In winter the road up there can be difficult.
