Where to stay in Vielha: the best areas

Old Town and the banks of the Nere

Central Vielha gathers around the church of Sant Miquèu, with its Christ of Mijaran, and the bridges over the Nere and the Garonne. Here are the long-established hotels, apartments and most of the restaurants and shops. It is the best base if you want to eat out and stroll without the car, and it is close to the valley bus stop.

Betren and Escunhau

These two villages adjoin Vielha to the east, on the way to Baqueira. They have stone and slate houses, small hotels and apartments, a little calmer than the centre. From here you reach the slopes sooner than from Vielha and are still a stroll from its restaurants.

Gausac and Casau

On the northern slope, above the town, these two villages have views over the valley and quieter places to stay, many with parking. A car is advisable, as the slopes are serious, but the centre is a few minutes away.

Towards Les and Bossòst

Down the valley, towards France, the Baish Aran is greener and a little cheaper. Bossòst and Les have hotels and rural houses, and Vielha is a quarter of an hour away. It suits you if you are after summer excursions more than skiing.
