Old town, the Suda and Remolins

If you are coming for the heritage, stay in the historic core at the foot of the castle. The cathedral, the Reials Col·legis and the bishop’s palace are a few steps from one another, and the lanes of Remolins take you through the old Jewish quarter. Up at the Suda is the parador, with views over the Ebro. The streets are narrow and steep, not car-friendly. For dinner, the bars around the cathedral and the riverside are a few steps away.

Best-rated in this area: Parador de Tortosa, with a score of 8.5 from 2,669 reviews.

The Eixample and the market

The Eixample is commercial Tortosa, with straight streets, shops and everyday bars. By the river is the municipal market, an iron Modernista building, and Teodor González park, home to the Prince’s Gardens. From here you walk to the old town and it is easier to find somewhere to leave the car. It suits long stays or business trips. The streets in this part are full of early 20th-century Modernista buildings, worth a stroll with your head up.

Ferreries, across the Ebro

Ferreries occupies the right bank, linked to the centre by bridges. It is a residential district with good views of the cathedral and the Suda from the riverside. It gives quick access to the roads to the delta and Roquetes. To see the monuments you just walk across the river. At dusk, from this bank you can see the old town lit up on the other side of the Ebro.

Best-rated in this area: Apartaments SB Corona Tortosa, with a score of 9.1 from 1,046 reviews.

Roquetes and Jesús

Roquetes, adjoining Tortosa to the west, is the starting point for the Els Ports natural park and home to the Ebro Observatory. Jesús, between Roquetes and the city, has a village feel. They are chosen by hikers, cyclists and anyone who prefers a local atmosphere, always with central Tortosa nearby. For drivers, they are also a convenient way out into the interior of the Terres de l'Ebre.
