Where to stay in Corralejo: the best areas

Old town and the port

The original heart of Corralejo is clustered around the quay, with one- and two-storey houses, small squares and sandy coves between the rocks. Here you sleep a few steps from the fish restaurants, the bars and the jetty where boats leave for Lobos and ferries for Playa Blanca. It suits you if you want to do everything on foot and go out for dinner without watching the clock.

Avenida Nuestra SeΓ±ora del Carmen, the town’s main shopping street, runs down to this area, so it is busy at night. Look for a side street if you want to rest.

Best-rated in this area: Surf Riders Fuerteventura, with a score of 8.6 from 2,011 reviews.

Grandes Playas and the dunes

To the south-east, the road to Puerto del Rosario runs alongside the nature reserve and its sands. On this stretch there are large resorts with gardens and pools, facing windswept beaches where people kitesurf and windsurf. It appeals to families and anyone spending the week between the sand and the sun lounger. You reach the town along the avenue, on foot if you do not mind a long walk, or by car.

Residential streets inland

Between the main avenue and the Lajares road lies everyday Corralejo, with apartments, supermarkets and the odd locals’ restaurant. There are fewer sea views, but you gain quiet nights and have the port and town beaches within walking distance. It suits long stays, groups of surfers and anyone who prefers to cook at home.

Bristol beach and the west

West of the port, the coast becomes rockier and the Bristol area has low-rise developments of apartments and bungalows. From here you look straight across to Lobos and the sun sets on this side. It is a quiet corner, a short distance from the old town, that works well for couples. To get to El Cotillo or Lajares you will need a car, as from anywhere in town.
