Puerto de las Nieves

Agaete’s fishing quarter faces the cliffs of the north-west and has the liveliest atmosphere in the municipality. Here are the ferry quay for Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Las Nieves chapel, the promenade with fish restaurants and the Las Salinas natural pools, carved into the volcanic rock. Stay here if you are catching an early boat or want to swim and eat without moving the car.

On clear evenings the sun sets over the sea and, when visibility is good, Mount Teide rises above the horizon.

Agaete village

The village is a little higher up, a stroll from the port along the road. Its white streets hold the church of La Concepción, the Huerto de las Flores botanical garden and, next door, the Maipés Archaeological Park, all on foot. Nearby is the square, with bars where locals have breakfast. There is hardly any noise at night, and you will find small guesthouses and apartments in traditional houses. It is a good option if you prefer village life to the seafront and want to head for the valley or Gáldar without crossing the port.

Agaete Valley and Los Berrazales

The road heading inland runs through farms of mangoes, avocados, oranges and coffee, with hamlets such as San Pedro and, at the end, Los Berrazales, surrounded by mountains. Rural houses and farms with rooms abound, some offering visits to coffee plantations and wineries. It is the area for hikers and for sleeping with no traffic noise. You will need your own car, as buses come up infrequently, and to go out for dinner you will have to drive down to the village or the port.
