Where to stay in El Médano: the best areas

Centre and El Médano beach

The heart of the town is the square overlooking the main beach, with a wooden boardwalk beside the sand. Almost all the terraces, ice-cream parlours, surf shops and restaurants are here. Apartments on these streets let you do everything on foot, from your morning swim to dinner.

With Tenerife South airport very close, the centre is handy for short stays or for the first and last night of your trip.

Montaña Roja and La Tejita

South-west of the town, the volcanic cone of Montaña Roja separates El Médano from La Tejita beach, a long strip of golden sand inside a nature reserve. Accommodation on this side is further from the bustle and is the choice for anyone who wants an open beach, walks on the trails around the cone and sunsets with no buildings in front.

El Cabezo and the windy side

At the other end of town, El Cabezo beach is the meeting point for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Schools and gear shops are concentrated nearby, and this is where the athletes who spend whole days on the water stay. Bear in mind that the wind blows hard for much of the year, worth knowing if you are travelling with small children.

Los Abrigos and Golf del Sur

Following the coast west, Los Abrigos is a small fishing village with fresh fish restaurants by the jetty. A little further on, Golf del Sur has apartment complexes, golf courses and pools. They suit families and couples who want peace and quiet and to drive around the south of Tenerife, with the beaches of Los Cristianos and Las Américas a short motorway ride away.
