Where to stay in Maspalomas: the best areas

Playa del Inglés

Playa del Inglés is the big resort of southern Gran Canaria. It has a wide beach that joins the Maspalomas dunes, lots of apartments and open-air shopping centres such as the Yumbo, home to much of the nightlife and the island’s LGBT scene. It is the area to choose if you want atmosphere and plenty of restaurants. Many bus routes to Las Palmas and the rest of the island also stop here.

San Agustín

East of Playa del Inglés, San Agustín is the oldest resort in the south. It is quieter, with small dark-sand beaches and residential streets. It suits couples and families with young children who want to rest away from the noise, with Playa del Inglés right next door.

Campo Internacional and the Oasis

Inland, behind the dunes, Campo Internacional is an area of bungalows, villas and resorts with gardens beside the Maspalomas golf course. It is a good choice for families who want space and a pool. At the end of the dunes, the Oasis, with its palm grove beside the Maspalomas lagoon, is the part closest to the lighthouse and the quietest beach.

Meloneras

Meloneras, west of the Maspalomas lighthouse, is the most modern area. Its promenade starts at the lighthouse and runs along the coast past shops, terraces and restaurants, and it is lovely for a stroll at sunset. The atmosphere is polished and calm, aimed mainly at couples.

If you want to see the interior of the island, such as Roque Nublo or the mountain villages, hiring a car is the easiest option from any area.

Best-rated in this area: Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort & Thalasso, with a score of 8.9 from 3,017 reviews.
