Where to stay in Costa Adeje: the best areas

Playa del Duque and FaΓ±abΓ©

This is the most polished stretch of the coast, with golden sand, sun loungers and a car-free promenade. There are plenty of large resorts with pools and restaurants with terraces facing the sea. It appeals to couples and families who want to walk down to the beach in flip-flops and go out for dinner without moving the car. There are shops and an open-air shopping centre a few steps from the sand.

Torviscas, San Eugenio and Puerto ColΓ³n

Further south, Torviscas and San Eugenio run as far as Puerto ColΓ³n and Troya beach, next to Playa de las AmΓ©ricas. Here there are more bars, shopping centres and nightlife. Boats to see pilot whales leave from Puerto ColΓ³n, and the Siam Park and Aqualand water parks are on the slopes above. It is the area for groups of friends and families with older children.

La Caleta

North of El Duque, La Caleta keeps the feel of an old fishing village, with low houses and fish restaurants beside a pebble cove. There are few tall buildings and it is very calm at night. The coastal path to wilder beaches starts here on foot, and the promenade takes you back to El Duque.

Best-rated in this area: HOVIMA Jardin Caleta, with a score of 8.2 from 931 reviews.

Callao Salvaje and Playa ParaΓso

Further north, these two developments look out to La Gomera and have a residential feel. The beaches are small, with dark sand and more rock than the rest of the coast. They attract people looking for apartments, sunsets and less bustle. To go out for dinner or shopping you will need a car or the bus.

Adeje old town

Inland, the town of Adeje keeps the Casa Fuerte and the church of Santa Úrsula, and the Barranco del Infierno trail starts here. Staying here brings you closer to everyday Canarian life and to the southern motorway, in exchange for driving to the beach.
