Centre and port

The town grew up around a small town beach and the port where ferries leave for Corralejo, in Fuerteventura. In these streets you have supermarkets, pharmacies, bars and most of daily life. Staying here lets you walk to the ferry to Fuerteventura and stroll the promenade in both directions.

Best-rated in this area: Ona Las Brisas, with a score of 8.9 from 1,580 reviews.

Playa Dorada and Marina RubicΓ³n

East of the centre, Playa Dorada has fine sand and very calm water, sheltered by a breakwater. Families with young children love it. A little further on is Marina RubicΓ³n, with its pontoons, restaurants and a weekly market, and the Castillo de las Coloradas.

From this side, Papagayo is closer. You can drive along the dirt track across Los Ajaches, or walk along the coast if you like hiking. Take water and shade, because there are no facilities at the coves.

Best-rated in this area: Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort, with a score of 9.0 from 1,340 reviews.

Playa Flamingo and MontaΓ±a Roja

To the west, Playa Flamingo is a sheltered man-made beach, with few waves and a promenade alongside. Behind it rises MontaΓ±a Roja, a volcano with a short path to the crater and views of Fuerteventura and Lobos. It is a residential area, with apartments and villas, from which you walk back to the centre along the promenade. In the evenings the seafront bars are pleasant, without the late-night noise.

Best-rated in this area: Grupotel Flamingo Beach, with a score of 8.5 from 2,667 reviews.

Pechiguera

At the western tip, by the lighthouse, the coast is volcanic rock and there are hardly any sandy beaches. Villas with pools and low-rise developments are the norm. It suits you if you travel by car, want silence and plan to head to Janubio and its salt pans, the jagged coast of Los Hervideros and the green lagoon of El Golfo, all to the north along the coast road.
