Where to stay in Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria: the best areas

Puerto Rico beach and the harbour

The bottom of the ravine is the flat part: the beach, the park with palm trees, the shopping centre and the two marinas. Here you have restaurants, supermarkets, water sports and boat trips for dolphin watching or fishing. Everything is within walking distance and flat, which is welcome in a place surrounded by mountains. It is the liveliest area at night.

Boats leave from the quay along the coast to Puerto de MogΓ‘n and ArguineguΓn, an easy way to see the coastline without a car.

The ravine slopes

On both sides of the beach, apartment complexes climb the mountain in terraces. From the top you get sea views and plenty of sun, but the slopes are steep and some buildings are far from the shore. Check how high up your accommodation is beforehand.

There are stairs and lifts on some stretches, and taxis to take you up. It is a quiet choice for long stays and for those who spend the day by the pool.

Amadores

To the west, linked to Puerto Rico by a cliffside promenade, Amadores has a beach of pale sand and turquoise water, protected by breakwaters. The water is usually very calm, making it the favourite of families with young children. Behind it are newer complexes and a row of seafront restaurants.

Towards Tauro and Playa del Cura

A little further on, following the coast road towards MogΓ‘n, Tauro and Playa del Cura are small, quieter resorts. They suit you if you have a car and want to get away from the bustle without giving up Puerto Rico's restaurants, a short drive away. Playa del Cura is a small holiday resort with its beach in front, and Tauro, smaller still, has houses and apartments facing the sea.
