Historic centre

Teror's centre can be seen in a short walk, but it has one of the best-kept ensembles of traditional architecture in Gran Canaria. The Calle Real de la Plaza, with its carved wooden balconies, leads to the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pino, the island's patron. Next to it are the Plaza del Pino, the House Museum of the Patrons of the Virgin and several sweet shops.

There are few places to stay in the old centre, and they are small, in restored old houses. It is the area for those seeking culture, local food and calm nights, with the streets almost empty once the day visitors leave.

Rural districts and Osorio

Around the town are districts such as Arbejales or El Palmar, with rural houses among vegetable plots, chestnut trees and green slopes. Nearby is the Finca de Osorio, a natural area with laurel forest and trails that forms part of the Doramas rural park. It is the choice for families, cyclists and walkers who want contact with the countryside and do not mind driving roads with many slopes and bends.

Bear in mind that humidity and mist are common in the north, so bring something warm even in summer.

Valleseco and the summit

Climbing the road inland, Valleseco is a small, cool municipality with rural houses and the Laguna de Valleseco recreation area. From here you are closer to Artenara, Tejeda and the Roque Nublo, so it appeals to hikers and those who want to explore the summits of Gran Canaria. Las Palmas is a drive down towards the coast. In winter the mornings are cold and your accommodation should have heating.
